A Future Waits

Matthew 19:14
"but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Bethel Compassion Children's Home | A Proposed Plan
Various reports indicate that India is home to 440 million children, the largest number in any country in the world, and One third of the world’s children living in poverty are in India. Poverty, malnutrition, child labour, illiteracy, female infanticides, child abuse ranging from intentional short term injuries to long term injuries that could impair the development potential of a child, child marriage, gender discrimination, child trafficking, juvenile delinquency, child beggary, sexual abuse, physical or psychological mistreatment, especially due to gender discrimination are some of the problems haunting children. India also has the largest population of working children in the world with an estimated 111 million children struggling as child laborers. These are, however, just symptoms and the real problem lies elsewhere. Unless the root problem is treated, we cannot eradicate these from the society.
Ahmedabad also has its share of the problems faced by children across the country.
For construction of Sabarmati Riverfront Project, thousands of families staying in the slums on both the sides of the River Sabarmati flowing through the city of Ahmedabad were resettled in different parts of the city of Ahmedabad.
About 5000 such families are resettled in Vatva, an Industrial part of the city of Ahmedabad. Though there is a roof over their head in the resettled colonies, the fact remains that the children are still underprivileged and the
surroundings are still filthy, marked by poverty and inferior living conditions. Over and above this, there are various labour colonies in Vatva where also children are living in a pitiful condition. Immorality among such children is a
cause of great concern. There does not exist any facility for regular health check-up for such children. With gender bias at the core, several girls are not sent to schools. A lasting cure to these maladies is possible only when we
tackle the root problems that continue to keep them uneducated, immoral, and vulnerable. Such children need to be provided not only with immunization and nutritious foods but also moral science education and awareness projects to
empower such children about their right to education, healthy living as to prevent exploitation from child labour, child prostitution, child beggary and such evils haunting the underprivileged children.
Childhood is the time when a human being needs nurturing, schooling, time to play and explore the opportunity to grow both emotionally and physically. When a child is deprived of these, it hampers his/her growth, arrests psychological and intellectual development, and prevents from realizing full potential.
Bethel Seva Ashram is starting a project with a view to providing nutritious foods, moral science education and awareness projects to empower such children about their right so as to give a wholesome development to the children of resettlement colonies as well as labour colonies in Vatva. The project involves huge amount not only for initial expenditure for putting up requisite infrastructure but also recurring expenses every day.
The Ashram is fully dependent on donations. We request you to kindly donate generously to this noble, humanitarian cause and lend a new breath of life to at least few under privileged children. Your wholehearted financial support is requested, which will definitely make a difference in the life of these children.
